“Alea iacta est!”- SIPS AFTER THE DICE

SPREAD A RUMOR

RELICARIO- RON DOMINICANO SUPERIOR

“Alea iacta est!” — “The die is cast!”

There’s no real historical connection between Julius Caesar, his favorite Greek writer Menander, and the rum Relicario — except for one playful coincidence: Relicario means “dice” in Spanish, and it comes in a square bottle.

But this is a historic moment for Sunday Rumor. From now on, we’ll also be publishing mini rum tastings under the name Rum-Dezvous, where we’ll offer basic reviews of sample rum bottles.

The dice has been cast — and while we’re not crossing the Rubicon, we are crossing the ocean and heading to the Dominican Republic for a Rum-Dezvous with Relicario Superior Rum.

APPEARANCE

Clear and transparent in the glass, with a deep amber color. Some rumors suggest added coloring — but we’re not chasing those. We’re here to start our own.

NOSE

As soon as the glass reached our chin, Relicario delivered clean, pronounced intensity. Pleasant on the nose, with no aggressive alcohol kick. Bourbon barrel aging leads the way with its signature aroma, followed by subtle notes of vanilla and toffee. On the second sniff, a delicate apricot appears, wrapped in a whisper of gingerbread.

PALATE

Despite some whispers about added sugar, Relicario Superior comes across as off-dry with a mouth-filling texture. It opens with pronounced intensity — discreetly sharp, offering pleasant surprises of burnt sugar and ginger on the first sip. The second sip brings out plenty of oak, a hint of cocoa, and just a touch of raisins.

The finish is long, with evolving complexity — starting with oak and pepper, and ending on notes of dried orange.

CONCLUSION

A very good rum, and a great entry point into the world of premium rums. Smooth, stylish, and easy to sip — especially if you’re just beginning your rum journey.
