RON ABUELO AÑEJO 7
Ron Abuelo Añejo 7 – an unexpected true Panamanian classic. Sometimes less is more, sometimes the number on a rum bottle is just a rumor. Sometimes less aging means more profile,or more unexpected flavors in profile.

Crafted from estate-grown sugar cane and aged for 7 years in ex-bourbon casks, this rum balances tropical warmth with refined maturity, bottled at 40% abv, typical for Abuelo’s start range rums. Sometimes is 37,5% , but… psssst! Temperatures about 35 degrees, extreme daily changes in temperature and humidity have created something quite special in only 7 years.

APPEARANCE
In the glass, Ron Abuelo Añejo 7 shows a clear, amber tone — lighter than expected given the bottle’s darker hue. From the very first pour, it challenges expectations.
NOSE
Expected clean feeling on the nose, medium intensity and plenty of aromas are reaching out from the glass. Vanilla and peach at the beginning, then comes chocolate filled caramel, and a little touch of oak.

PALATE
On palate off-dry sweetness, but very smooth. Unexpected smoothness from a rum that is only 7 years old, according to the information on the bottle. Our rumor says that Abuelo 7 is rum blend from 4 to 7 years. Pronounced aroma that does not start with the aromas of vanilla and peach, but vanilla and orange. Peach comes somewhere in the middle, and then again comes chocolate, but this time more dark in combination with figs and touch of oak again. All of these aromas are staying stable along with a long finish until the end of its complexity nature.
CONCLUSION
The spoiler was in the title — this rum is an unexpected classic. For its balance, smoothness, and surprise factor alone, Ron Abuelo Añejo 7 deserves nothing less than a very good rating. A reminder that sometimes, surprise is the most refined flavor of all.

This is the kind of rum that surprises you once and wins you over for good, or at least for some time. Simple in approach, elegant in execution — a perfect example of how Panama turns heat and patience into liquid gold. An unexpected classic that reminds us why some bottles deserve to be rediscovered, or considered for inclusion in a more detailed review.
Or just serve it with the espresoo and give it a try.
Until that time… ¡Salud!
