RON CARTAVIO XO
Day 4 of 24.
LAND: PERU
ABV: 40%
MATURATION: EX BOURBON, SCOTTISH, SLOVENIAN OAK BARRELS AND FRENCH LIMOUSIN CASKS
YEARS: NO STATEMENT (YOUNGEST 10, OLDEST 30, PREVIOUS VERSION WAS LABELED WITH NUMBER 18)
On the fourth day of Christmas we went to Peru to check their premium rum called Ron Cartavio XO. This rum also decided to change his name, or better say to hide his age, but the most faithful rum drinkers will remember the number 18 on the bottle, and its sweet taste without alcohol burn despite the 40% abv.
APPEARANCE
Once it is in the glass Cartavio XO is a clear spirit with deep intensity and dark brown color. Probably from excessive caramel coloring.
NOSE
Clean with light to medium intensity on the nose.Usual caramel and vanilla at the first smell. On the second comes a hint of oak mixed with walnuts together with chocolate and plum.
PALATE
Medium on the palate with warming texture without alcohol burn. Pronounced notes of oak, nice vanilla with a variety of fruits. From raisins, ripped bananas to pears. Long and very complex finish reveals cardamom notes at the end, but it also leaves a sweet aftertaste in the mouth.
CONCLUSION
Excessive use of sugar or additives (or both) prevent this spirit from being outstanding. But in any case, a rum that lovers of sweet rums will really like. Ron Cartavio XO lingers its aroma even on higher level with Peruvian milk chocolate J.D. GROSS Petit Chocolate with 39% cocoa.
