LA HECHICERA RESERVA FAMILIAR
To summarize this remarkable month with La Hechicera Reserva Familiar we decided to try a few cocktails with her. Old Fashioned cocktails are something that is a must have when we talk about quality rums. With Old Fashioned every rum shows its hidden gems, the best of it, while the other cocktail always shows how rum reacts with other ingredients. Today’s date was something exceptional. So let´s start…
ZOMBIANA
Inspired by a famous tiki drink Zombie created by Donn Beach, followed by ingredients which our girl might like we created one remarkable drink. Some ingredients from the original tiki drink were changed, some of them were the same.
Result?
NOSE
Grapefruit, lime and Clairin Rum, we used instead of black blended overproof rum, are creating a citrus bouquet with a hint of Old Judge Falernum. The perfume she seduces us is now more different but for this reason even more captivating.
PALATE
Explosion!
Instead of column still aged rum, we used Flor de Cana 12, together with our blended beauty. Nice and calm warm notes from these two rums together with our wild boy from previous tests created an amazing mix that perfectly passed to grapefruit taste. What gave us a special kick in the drink is a gift we surprised our girlfriend with- chocolate cookie syrup instead of cinnamon syrup.
FINISH
Citrus, vegetal notes in combination with warm notes of falernum, homemade grenadine syrup with bitterness from grapefruit… In other words, a well-balanced drink that develops and presents the flavors it hides over time as we drink it.
It could also be said that our girl flirts very well with all the ingredients we put in front of her, and unites them into a perfect unity called Zombiana.
OLD ENCHANTRESS FASHION
As well as we thought that Old Fashioned variation will surprise us with something new, we were a little disappointed. Moreover we were not so much disappointed with the notes she brought to us, instead we were disappointed that she brought us not so much excitement like in the previous cocktail.
NOSE
Classic Old Fashioned notes. Orange dominates together with its own oak notes and with oak notes from whiskey bitters.
PALATE
Despite the fact that we also find classic notes here, we can not complain. La Hechicera Reserva Familiar with white sugar cube and few drops of molasses and whiskey bitter creates a classic Old Fashioned cocktail. Balance between sweet and bitter, some hidden aromas are here, but nothing spectacular.
FINISH
Unfortunately we can not say that the finish is long with something special. What we find at the end are notes from bitters, not from rum.
All things considered we can say that we had really great dates with our Columbian girl. Maybe not 100% great with cocktails, but for rum pairings late night evenings is our enchantress impeccable. Light, smooth with a not so strong alcoholic kick at the first sip.
As we said it before… a perfect night sipper or kisser.
