On the third day of Christmas the little bird brought us Romero Amber Rum Sherry Cask all away from Canada. This pot still 40% abv rum comes from Calgary’s Romero Distilling Company, founded 2018.
APPEARANCE
Clear in the glass, pale in intensity. As the name says it is almost amber, maybe something between amber and gold.
NOSE
Clean and medium on the nose with toffee and caramel kick combined with licorice cherry hints.
PALATE
Dry and mouthfilling, without alcohol burn but with intensity. Some hay and cereal aroma with a little bit of honey notes. Cherry aroma comes after a third sip with just a very small intensity of oak. The finish is medium, surely not long, but still with some complexity.
CONCLUSION
Lack of much complexity and only few simple aromas and flavors that this rum delivers in finish, it belongs to a very good category of rums but with a lot of space for improvement. It has its own potential, it just needs to be delivered. Since we are dealing with a very young distillery, we have no doubts in future success.
