MONTEBELLO RHUM VIEUX AGRICOLE
Day 11 of 24
LAND: GUADELOUPE
ABV: 42%
MATURATION: EX-BOURBON CASKS
YEARS: 6
On the eleventh day of Christmas we decided to speak French, because our star of the day is Montebello Rhum Vieux Agricole. Distillerie Carrere in Guadeloupe sent us this minimum six years old rum made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice, distilled in column still and aged in ex bourbon barrels.
APPEARANCE
In the glass the spirit is clear with pale intensity and lemon to gold color.
NOSE
As soon as we bring the glass to the lips, we feel medium intensity and it shows its clean condition. Lime and green apples are first what comes in the plan, and a hint of hay in combination with burnt sugar.
PALATE
Off dry with warming and pronounced notes of oak, pepper, fresh grass and the hint of chocolate. Long and very complex finish filled with tropical fruit and dried fruit like raisins and prunes.
CONCLUSION
Outstanding spirit for those who like Rhum Agricole. On the first seems a little bit unbalanced because somehow the pepper presence is always active, but actually that is what makes the character of Rhum Agricole.
J.D.GROSS PETIT CHOCOLAT MADAGASKAR 70%
Quite bitter and hard chocolate with one wooden note is something that doesn’t match 100% with Montebello despite the similar flavor profile. It is more suitable for people who are rather looking for something extreme in rum and chocolate pairing than a fine after dinner dessert.
