ABV: 40%
MATURATION: EX-BOURBON & EX-COGNAC BARELS
YEARS: 6+1
On the second of Christmas we got this interesting caribbean-continental aged Plantation Rum Grande Réserve with 40% abv. from Barbados. Now called Plateray instead of Plantation… but it will take a long time for rum lovers, bartenders and everyone else to forget the Plantation name, or at least until all stocks of bottles with the same name are used up.
APPEARANCE
In the glass spirits clear with its pale intensity, showing us a wonderful gold color.
NOSE
On the nose is clean with light intensity of ananas and red berries aromas together with caramel. Aging in tropical climates is notable, but also continental aging shows us citrus notes like orange, mandarins and some floral aromas.
PALATE
Quite dry but also quite rough on the first sip with pronounced flavor gingerbread, cinnamon, brown sugar and lemon. Ripped banana on the second sipp together with vanilla creates a feeling of eating a Christmas cake.Second sip is warming too. Finish is long and very complex with flavors that are developing from cake to grassy and herbaceous.
CONCLUSION
Outstanding and interesting rum, especially if we look at the price. As we said it before 2 years-perfect sipping rum for beginners in rum world. Highlight to everything is pairing this rum with Bajadera chocolate. It is like when cake is topped with nougat creme. Perfect as desert after lunch in this winter time.
