THE SPELLS OF COLUMBIAN FEMME FATALE [1/4]

This lady came into my life last year as a birthday gift from a very good friend of mine. Usually I give rums the characteristics of men, very rarely I give them the soul of a woman, but in this case it was clear even at first sight that it was a special woman. Just like her Spanish name says: The enchantress, not the sorceress.

As I said, at the first sight I knew she was exceptional. Dressed in the square box with a flower print, opened in the middle just enough to tease us with what’s underneath the “dress”. But still with putting the big blue wax seal in front of our eyes, she proudly lets us know that her origin is Colombian.

In various ways, we find her as a sassy and sweet Columbian girl with an innocent sensuality that fascinates all of us around her. As the third generation of  Riascos family, she was born  in Barranquilla on the shores of river Magdalena from one side, and on the other side with a view of the Caribbean Sea. During her childhood in Casa Santana Ron Y Licores, under the watchful eye and precision of her teacher and master blender Giraldo Mituoka Kagana she was taught to share the family philosophy with us:

• Casa Santana is independent rum producer
• Only the best rums from south America were sourced to be aged in Barranquilla
• Only best molasses rums through continuous distillation are the chosen ones
• Barrels are playing important role in the work of Giraldo Mituoka Kagana, the Cuban/Japanese Master Blender

And that’s exactly where her secret lies. With a diverse and independent spirit, grown in the best Kentucky bourbon white oak barrels in the same way, she is here to present us the magic of Columbia from feminine point of view. Even if we take her square cardboard dress to the side, we’re gonna find out that her “dress” doesn’t hide  anything from us. She is still showing us oversized blue wax signs, and rain forest tattoos on the medium size stubby bottle.

The price of 40€ for a 0,7l bottle is telling us that she doesn’t belong to the high class society, or at least she just doesn’t want to belong there. Therefore, the real rum lovers and connoisseurs know that the true value of every rum is hidden under a bottle cap, or in her case under the sealed cork.
