SAINT JAMES VSOP TRÈS VIEUX RHUM AGRICOLE

On the 20th day of Rum Advent Calendar we squeezed the fresh cane juice grown in Martinique, distilled in Creole column still and aged in new American oak casks and ex-bourbon casks. Saint James is the oldest distillery in Martinique and one of the 11 rhum brands that are part of A.O.C. Martinique, which shows their seriousness and dedication to the quality of authentic rhum.

APPEARANCE

Saint James VSOP in the glass looks clear with medium intensity and gold to amber color.

NOSE

The nose is clean, medium intensity. The first thing that “hits” the nose is oak and herbaceous mixed with spiciness. Then came dried fruits with light vanilla and cocoa.

PALATE

Dry on the palate, at the first moment rough, but after second it turns into a smooth texture. Pronounced aroma of oak, prunes combined with cinnamon spiciness. Long and complex finish that delivers next to the constant presence of oak also notes of dark chocolate mixed with grassy and herbal notes.

CONCLUSION

Despite the spiciness which is a little bit highlighted, this spirit is outstanding. Especially if it is paired with dark chocolate.

HACHEZ INTENSIVE BITTER 88%

Intensity meets spiciness. Clash of titans where French consistency and artistry in rhum production meets chocolate with the highest percentage of cocoa in Hachez’s portfolio. Both are intensive with quite an amount of aroma. Together they are creating perfection where flower notes of rum are highlighted. Honestly, they both taste better in pair than when they are separated.
