THE BEST COMBINATION FROM BOTH WORLDS [4/5]

SPREAD A RUMOR

DOS MADERAS SELECCIÓN

Cocktails n’ Sundays…

Sounds like perfect combination for all chilling in these hot days, and these two cocktails are perfect pair to Sunday like this. Even it doesn’t look like that on first sight, these two gems are hiding something that can only be awake with few ice cubes and some bitter. Ok, and some espresso, and some coffee liqueur etc.

OLD FASHIONED SELECCIÓN

Sugar and rum. Seems like a sweet combination, but I must say it is quite surprising. Maybe it was stirred a little bit more than usual, because I wanted to dissolve a sugar cube better, but is not sweet at all. Come on, take a look…

NOSE

First what comes on the nose is dry orange and walnut, quite fresh. Oils from dehydrated orange and notes from walnut bitter in touch with the ice came on the surface of the drink creating some long time ago lost flavors. Second, it’s a very relaxing scent.

PALATE

Not so hard on the palate. Fresh and nutty. Plum is also here but somewhere hidden. On the first sight this Old Fashioned introduces himself as a whiskey old fashioned, but as I said it is not so strong on the palate. Quite easy drink coupled with some interesting aromas.

FINISH

I can’t shake the impression that I’m drinking whiskey. Some peach ice tea is coming after while and making this Old Fashioned a perfect summer sipper.

BARBADOS ESPRESSO MARTINI

Coffee(espresso) liqueur, some interesting molasses bitter with nutmeg and coffee notes and of course Dos Maderas Selección sound really promising but the final result was absolutely unpredicted.

NOSE

Grated nutmeg was on the on top, so there were no suprises furthermore.

PALATE

Explosion of taste. Sweet, creamy, and dark chocolate. What is interesting there is no added chocolate or sugar syrup in this cocktail. All that chocolate flavor is coming from rum and homemade coffe liquer, which I made with Plantation Barbados rum, two different type of coffee, sugar and a little bit of caramel and vanila syrup.

FINISH

Nutmeg and some floral notes. Probably from coffe in addition with Plantation Rum used in homemade coffee liqueur.

Interesting fact is that all hidden aromas that were speaking about before now suddenly showed up in one drink. Probably coffee doesn’t wake only people up.
